Cumberland Sings the Blues!

In 2017, the Town of Cumberland planned a one-time concert with Tad Robinson. Amy Bonham had just moved her business into the "pink house," which is now the site and stage for the Blues, Beer & BBQ Summer Concert Series. Amy was approached by the town council that there may be people parking on Saturn Drive that night, behind her business. Located behind Saturn Drive is a playground and land. She inquired about the event, and they realized she was married to local blues' performer, Gordon Bonham. Bonham agreed they could move it from the originally planned space to her business lot. The event attracted more people than expected. After a recap in the town hall, they decided to hold a series based on the success and include more  jazz and blues musicians such as Gordon. Since, the series has been known to attract thousands of people in one night.

You bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the surroundings. Some picnic tables are also available. The all ages event has something for everyone. Kids can play on the playground or try their hand at giant Jenga or Connect Four. Vendors line Saturn Drive with mouth-watering barbecue, ice cream, other comfort foods and deserts, as well as local breweries (no outside alcohol is permitted). Glow lights are handed out by the town council, and you can support them by purchasing a blues t-shirt or another donation.  As the sun sets, relax under the lights and stars while and enjoying the sounds of Grammy award-winning and international touring musicians, you would otherwise pay to hear, at no cost. Who wouldn't want to go? The event has become a neighborhood tradition since the first show held on June 3, 2017.

The first series was held June 28th and included fireworks. Address; 104 S Munsie Drive. The summer schedule is as follows;

  June 28 I 6-10 PM I Chicago Blues & Fireworks

July 26 | 5-9 pm | Ladies' Night!
